When it comes to moving house there are a number of things that you can do to ease the stress of the day. One of those things is to buy some purpose made moving boxes. They say that moving house is one of the most stressful things that you can do, and they’d be right, so you’d be well advised to do all you can to reduce the stress of it.

You don’t necessarily have to fork out a lot of cash on your boxes for moving, there are a number of free sources, but these are becoming far and few between. It used to be that the supermarket would give away their used boxes and this was a great source for free moving boxes, but now most if not all of those boxes get collapsed and sent back the sender for recycling or re-use. If you ask nicely though sometimes you’ll get lucky and be able to get hold of a few. There are disadvantages to using free or previously used moving boxes though, the corrugated structure of the cardboard is very strong in it’s natural state, any sort of dent or damage thought weakens that structure and you will end up with a weaker box.

If you don’t have the time to hunt round looking for free moving boxes though and you just want to get the job sorted you may be just want to buy some brand new moving boxes. To be honest for the cost involved this is the options that I would go for. There are two main construction methods for cardboard boxes; single wall and double wall. If you want cheap moving boxes or the items that are going in the box are not to valuable or breakable, go for the single wall variety. As the name suggests the wall of the box is just a single wall. If you have crockery or valuables going in the box you may prefer to go for the double walled variety that are twice the strength of the single wall version.

If you are looking to buy moving boxes there are a lot of stores available on the internet that provide not only different size and formats of box but also packing accessories. Being correctly prepared for packing really does help the process a lot more and a specialist shop with moving boxes for sale will also have are a number of accessories that will speed up the packing process:

  • Bubble Wrap
Buying a massive roll of bubble wrap you will save yourself a lot of time and hassle. If you don’t get the bubble wrap your going to have to use newspaper and the pain about that is that you’re going to have to have saved it up over the past few months to have enough. The other problem is that newspaper is messy, all of the print comes off on to you and whatever you’re packing it with. It also doesn’t offer much protection and to get the best from it requires very careful packing.
  • Packing Tape
Getting some purpose made packing the tape (the wide brown tape) is also and excellent purchase. It may cost more per roll  than your regular inch wide sellotape but overall I would think it would work out cheaper - you’d use less length of the packing tape than the sellotape to get the same level of security. The packing tape is also significantly stronger than regular tape and you can find the end easier!
  • Sharp Scissors
I say sharp because you’d possibly be better off with no scissors than a blunt pair. A sharp pair of scissors will save your teeth and speed up taping up the boxes.

One of the handiest types of moving boxes you can buy is a wardrobe type box, you definetly won’t find one of these at your supermarket. It is essentially a carboard wadrobe, its got a pole running across the top of it and handle on the outside that you carry it by. This type of box make moving your clothes easy – you take them straight out of your wardrobe and put them in to you new cardboard wardrobe. What could be easier!

When it comes to sizes of boxes, think carefully about the size your go for. I think that a lot of smaller boxes is more useful than a few larger ones. Someone, and it may be you, will need to carry these boxes and it’s much easier to carry a smaller box than a larger one. Keep the larger boxes for putting lighter items such as bedding and soft toys in, this will make them much more manageable. Things like books, CD’s and records should be placed in smaller boxes because they are a lot heavier.
