Why Troll Beads
The Troll bead bracelet is the modern day solution to the traditional charm bracelet. There are so many variations on the market at the present time and Troll beads seem to be proving as popular as Pandora Bracelets.
Start collecting Trollbeads
In order to be able to begin your collection you must first decide on the correct sized bracelet. These come in varying sizes and finishes. It really is dependant on what sort of look you want to go for and whether you wear more gold than silver. The finish or material of your chosen bracelet will also be dependant on your budget, as gold obviously comes with a larger price tag, silver with a moderate one and leather is definitely more affordable and gives a more casual look. I would, however, think carefully about whether to actually go for a gold bracelet if you are planning to fill up your bracelet – as you will not actually be able to see much if any of the actual bracelet once your collection has been completed.
The actual Troll bead chain is quite ‘slinky’ compared to other makes. I find the Pandora bracelet more rigid and comes in a cleaner-looking silver finish as opposed to the Troll which has a more antique oxidised finish.
Once you have the correct ‘chain’ that comes in at around £34.00 for the silver, you must then decide on a clasp. This can be where the price varies from Pandora as this is an additional cost on top of the bracelet. You can opt for a simple clasp that is obviously cheaper than a more intricate design. This does add to the individuality but does tot up cost wise. You can choose flowers or fish adorned with pearls if you so wish and these come in varying sizes too. Be sure to get the total length with clasp around one inch longer than you think because once you begin collecting the Troll beads they will need extra room.
The Troll beads come in an array of beautiful colours and textures – some have gold in them and some are made from jasper. The jasper troll beads are a limited edition so you will have to grab them quickly! There is a range of the jasper with varying colours which is characteristic of jasper.
The smallest silver troll beads start from £23.00, as do the basic glass beads. There are some larger silver charms that do vary from this price but if you want to stick to the basic collection this is the price you should expect to pay per bead.
Debut bracelets
This is a really good way of saving money – Trollbeads have brought out a selection of bracelets called Debut Bracelets (which usually come with a flower clasp) with 2 different coloured beads on. You buy this as a package so you cannot change the beads so make sure you choose the package you like. This comes in at around £88.00, which gives you a saving of £34.00 – This equates to getting a free bracelet and you also have started your bracelet collection. This is a really good deal and it is great that you get a bracelet, clasp and 2 beads for this price.
Differences between Troll beads and Pandora
Although personally I do prefer the cleaner colouring and the stiffness of the Pandora bracelets, I do think there are many advantages of buying a Troll bead bracelet instead. The clasps you can select are beautiful and add to the individuality of your bracelet and are easier to open. Pandora bracelets are a pain to put on in the first place as it is difficult to put the pin into the catch if you are doing it alone. Also, getting the Pandora bracelet off is tough as you need long nails or a specially designed ‘key’ to help you from trashing your nails each time you need to get it off your arm!
The Troll I personally find the letter beads more appealing in the Troll range. They are far more decorative as opposed to a straight 3 sided silver bead with a clear bold letter stamped onto it. I feel the Troll bead bracelet is more ethnic in feel and like I have already said it has a more oxidised, antique finish to it. You also have a wider choice of coloured beads in the Troll range that vary in texture as well as colours. I find the colours ‘juicier’ and more vibrant in this range.
The main positive difference in owning a Troll bracelet is that you can add many of the competitors’ beads onto the Troll bead bracelet but not the other way around. This can be a really nice option as you will be able to have a wider range of choices and you will be able to make your bracelet as individual as you l

Great article. I agree that Pandora has become more of just a brand name , but not the best bead out there.
