What is a sweetie bracelet?
86Links of London Sweetie bracelet is a stunning piece of jewellery. The idea of the sweetie bracelet is taken from the seventies / eighties extremely popular candy sweet – I remember it being a length of coloured pink, blue, yellow, purple and white rings which were threaded onto a string of elastic. To eat the sweets you had to chew them off the elastic. Since then, naughty presents made of the same candy have been produced in to items such as knickers and thongs!
The links sweetie bracelet happens to take on a more elegant tasteful approach to the original concept! The links on the sweetie bracelets are made from solid silver that are threaded onto a double length of very tough elastic.
The idea of the Links sweetie bracelet (if you so wish) is to make it into a charm bracelet. When you first decide which material to go for whether silver, gold or a mixture of both – They will all come with around five split rings on them. These are not usually spaced evenly when you first buy the bracelet, but are very simple to move to where you wish to place them. They are very tiny key-ring type rings that you are able to thread on sweetie bracelet charms. There is an extensive array of charms that you can view online. Whatever the occasion you wish to commemorate i.e. a graduation or a birth you will find most options are covered in the range of Links sweetie bracelet charms. These are also available in gold or silver with some enamel coloured charms. Various shoes, flip-flops, skates, high heels, trainers and ice skates are among the range. If you do fill up the split rings these are only around 50p each for an extra one.
Which One?
The sweetie bracelet does come in different finishes. A gold one is available as is a silver one. An oxidised finish is a also a nice option if you want a more casual look. Links of London also do a mixture of both colours on the same bracelet. There are quite a few options so be sure to research it well before you decide. It really comes down to what colour you wear most of and also the issue of budget, as gold in particular is quite a lot more than the silver option.
The bracelet also comes in three different sizes – Small, medium and large. They do measure up quite small so be sure to check your size, although you can purchase extra rings – I believe these are around £30.00 for 15 extra links – which of course you can add on to your bracelet if needed.
Alternative Sweetie Bracelets and Cost
Links of London also do a range of sweetie bracelets with coloured stones in. I have seen white, turquoise and pink variations that separate the silver links if you are looking for something with a little bit of colour in but keeping the same concept.
The pricing of the bracelets start around £110.00 for the silver option and the silver sweetie bracelet charms range from around £45.00 upwards, obviously dependant on whether you wanted gold. Links of London also do a really nice christening sweetie bracelet – This is around £100.00 and the same concept of collecting charms applies.
Looking after your sweetie bracelet
The elastic on the bracelets is extremely tough and if looked after it shouldn’t need rethreading for a long time. To look after your bracelet be careful not to overstretch it or wear it in the shower. There is no reason it should perish if looked after. If you do need it rethreading, a jewellers should be able to do this and will have access to the original Links of London elastic. This will certainly be the case if they are stockists of the product. It will cost you in the region of £10.00.
The bracelet is made of ‘925’ sterling silver and needs to be looked after as any item of silver jewellery. Silver tarnishes, this is a known characteristic but if maintained with a silver cloth every so often it will retain its bright shiny look. A silver cloth is in the region of £4.00 and has polish impregnated into it. This is a must have item and will not break the bank. Some people do have problems with silver rubbing and leaving a black mark on them – regular usage of this cloth will deter this from happening as will keeping it away from water.
Other options you may not have thought about
The links sweetie bracelets do also give you a really nice option if you had an old charm bracelet that you were given as a child and you wanted to give your existing charms a new look. I have known people to take their old charms and put them onto the sweetie bracelet – which is really easy because of the split ring system.
